Cetronic are able to monitor the electrical supply for power quality and harmonic anomalies together with compliance to G5/4-1 2005. Energy Networks Association Document G5/4-1 2005 details the maximum levels of harmonic distortion that electricity consumers are permitted to export onto the distribution network. The maximum voltage distortion at 400V at the point of common coupling with other users is 5% THD (total harmonic distortion) and high voltage THD can be caused by the type of load the consumer powers.
Typically, non linear loads draw their power in a non sinusoidal way and the main offenders are:
Single phase - switch-mode power supplies, PCs, monitors, photo-copiers, high-frequency lighting and other electronic single phase load.
Three phase - Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS Systems), Variable Speed Drives (VSD) and 3 phase converters.
An active harmonic conditioner automatically adjusts and removes unwanted current harmonics.
